please do not think that my only goal in blogging about these schools is to say negative things about the administrations of these schools; but i have not yet had reason to do anything but comment on absolute antithesis to christ like behavior that we have experienced thus far in this realm. we held a 1 hour vigil at union today, even though the majority of the students were on spring break, because one of our riders dawn was kicked out of this school.
we arrived near union and a police officer came on our bus, (the usual protocol) to inform us of the consequences we would face if we chose to trespass on their property beyond the allowed space which they would escort us to. we were then directed to a make-shift soccer field, on the absolute edge of empty space which union owned, where no buildings, landmarks, sidewalks, or even roads traversed this empty area. our bus was advised to park in this grass, next to a gathering of border trees. large piles of dirt welcomed us as we exited our vehicle. what could be done with this second "half a loaf" which we had been given, and "graciously" at that, in the words of union officials?
32 of us climbed these large piles of dirt. 6 students stood in the distance. we prayed, sang, and reflected on dawn's story of being kicked out on a friday afternoon and having only until sunday to be out of housing, gone from classes without the ability to tell friends, and exited from life as she knew it all for admitting to her best friend that she was in love with another woman, even though no sexual activity had taken place.
jake spoke of how this pile of dirt, on the edge of campus property, is what union offers to gays. GLBT christians are pushed away and eventually pushed out of sight. is this the welcome mat that jesus would have provided visitors with?
as usual, the students of this campus did not fail to continue the legacy of christ-like behavior which students before them from our previous stops had put into action; they greeted us with free box lunches and ice coolers of bottled water. i have nothing but sincere hope and faith that our contacts with administration at upcoming universities will far surpass and make up for our reception thus far.

1/2 a loaf of bread from lee plus 1/2 a pile of dirt on which to hold a vigil at union does not equal 1 whole of much. yet we will continue to use what we are given to the best of our abilities and let christ do with it what he will.
